In 2018, the ShineOnCass Foundation organized a Cereal Drive to support food insecure kids in the summer through the Oakland Food Pantry. More than 250 boxes of cereal were collected and shared with families in need! The following year, the ShineOnCass Foundation partnered with the Town of Oakland’s annual summer festival “Oakfest” to promote a special day to share kindness in honor of Cass called “ShineOn Oakland Day.” Oakfest features a weekend of community events, with the largest being “ShineOn Oakland Day” welcoming dozens of locally-grown food vendors, Maine artists and crafters, musicians and children's activities.
We have shared our popular Kindness Bookmark Project with kids at ShineOn Oakland Day and collected "ShineOnCass Snacks" for local school food pantries. More recently, we have distributed hundreds of free books as part of our Shine A Light On Literacy Project. We think the community effort is a great opportunity for families to support other families in need, and a special way for kids to shine their own light by giving back! |
