The ShineOnCass Foundation partners with the Town of Oakland’s annual summer festival “Oakfest” to promote a special day to share kindness in honor of Cass called “ShineOn Oakland Day.” Oakfest features a weekend of community events, with the largest being “ShineOn Oakland Day” welcoming dozens of locally-grown food vendors, Maine artists and crafters, musicians and children's activities.
In 2018 the ShineOnCass Foundation organized a Cereal Drive to support food insecure kids in the summer through the Oakland Food Pantry. More than 250 boxes of cereal were collected and shared with families in need. Shine On!
Join us for Oakfest 2019 when we share our popular Kindness Bookmark Project with kids on Saturday, July 27 at ShineOn Oakland Day. We will also be collecting "ShineOnCass Snacks" for local school food pantries. Please bring recently-purchased, individually-wrapped snacks to help us fill a school bus for our community's children! Donations will be accepted all weekend at Oakfest, at Camden National Bank and Buddies Meats & Groceries in Oakland and at the Oakland Town Office. We think supporting ShineOnCass Snacks is a great opportunity for families to support other families in need, and a special way for kids to shine their own light by giving to others. Let's Get Our Shine On!
